Meet Ronan Byrne, MC, RCC
Ronan Byrne is a Registered Clinical Counsellor, Mental Performance Coach, Performance and Resilience specialist, and the founder of Stronger Mind Counselling and Coaching. He holds a Master of Counselling degree from City University of Seattle, where his studies and research focused on developing mental toughness, resilience, and post-traumatic growth through evidence-based approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and Positive Psychology.
Ronan believes that meaningful change occurs when individuals develop the courage to move beyond fear, self-doubt, and old patterns that no longer serve them. His counselling style is warm, authentic, and collaborative, while also being practical and action-oriented. He works alongside clients to help them build insight, develop effective coping strategies, and take meaningful steps toward the life they want to create.
Ronan brings a unique combination of professional expertise and lived experience to his counselling practice. Prior to becoming a counsellor, he spent twenty-eight years with the Correctional Service of Canada, working extensively with trauma, addiction, violence, and behavioural change. Throughout his career, he supported individuals facing some of life’s most difficult challenges and gained a deep understanding of human resilience, accountability, and personal growth. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Governor General’s Medal of Excellence in 2015.
Before joining the Correctional Service of Canada, Ronan served as an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, receiving his commission from the Minister of National Defence in 1998. During his military service, he trained extensively in diving and achieved certifications as an instructor, rescue diver, and dive master.
As both an athlete and coach, Ronan understands the mental demands of high performance. He competed professionally in rugby with Sumitomo Bank in Osaka, Japan, participating in elite tournaments throughout Asia, including the Hong Kong 10s, Manila 10s, and Guam 10s. More recently, he represented Canada at the 2022 World Age Group Triathlon Championships in Montreal.
Ronan has also spent more than twenty years coaching athletes and individuals in health, fitness, and human performance. As a mental performance coach, he works with athletes ranging from youth competitors to elite performers, helping them develop confidence, resilience, focus, emotional regulation, and the mental skills necessary to perform under pressure.
In addition to his clinical work, Ronan has delivered workshops and keynote presentations on mental toughness, motivation, resilience, and behaviour change for athletic organizations, healthcare professionals, and private businesses. He has worked with groups such as Royal Bay Academy Lacrosse and Symmetrix Physiotherapy and Kinesiology. He is also a contributing author for the National Bodybuilding Alliance and has published articles including How to Think Like an Athlete and Training Mental Toughness.
Whether working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, life transitions, or athletes seeking peak performance, Ronan’s goal remains the same: to help people develop a stronger mind, build resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change in their lives.
